Produk-produk tersebut telah dikenal oleh wisatawan mancanegara antara lain yang berasal Malaysia, SIngapura, Jepang, Belanda dan Perancis; sehingga berpotensi menjadi komoditas ekspor unggulan dari Kabupaten Deli Serdang. Selama ini kendala yang dihadapi oleh para pengrajin adalah kapasitas dan kualitas produk yang belum optimal sehingga produk handicraft tersebut sulit untuk menembus pasaran luar negeri. Kendala lainnya adalah masih lemahnya kompetensi sumber daya manusia baik khususnya dari sisi manajerial bagi pemenuhan mutu produk berstandar internasional yang menjadi hambatan dalam menjalin kerjasama dengan investor asing. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan ketrampilan para pengrajin, maupun manajemen produksi dan pemasaran sehingga dapat menjadikan produk handicraft dari Desa Payageli ini sebagai komoditas ekspor unggulan. Melalui kemitraan dengan Lembaga Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat Universitas Negeri Medan (LPM UNIMED), optimalisasi manajemen produksi handicraft para pengrajin handicraft ini dicapai dengan pelaksanaan serangkaian pelatihan peningkatan mutu dan desain produk, aplikasi mesin pengerik sebagai teknologi tepat guna dalam produksi handicraft, serta pelatihan pemasaran berbasis system informasi kepada pengrajin handtcraft di Desa Payageli Kabupaten Deli Serdang. Kata Kunci: Desa Payageli, Enceng Gondok, Handicrafts, Lidi Sawit, Produk Ekspor Abstract Desa Payageli at Kabupaten Deli Serdang has started to gain its popularity as the center of handicrafts such as bags, hats and wallets that are originally made from water hyacinth (enceng gondok) and palm sticks. International tourists coming from Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, the Netherlands and France; have brought these products as souvenirs to their home countries, underlining the market value of the products to become one of flagship products of Kabupaten Deli Serdang for the world. However, the craftsmen have faced the constraint in optimizing capacity and quality that leads to have the difficulty to penetrate foreign markets. Another challenge is the weakness of human resource competencies, particularly from the managerial side’s towards the fulfillment of international standards in all aspects needed for the products to attract foreign investors. This community service activity aims to improve the skills of the craftsmen, as well as the management of production and marketing in order to make handicraft products from Desa Payageli as the main export commodity from Kabupaten Deli Serdang. Through a partnership with the Institute of Community Services University of Medan (abbreviated as LPM UNIMED); the excel of Desa Payageli’s craftsmen as well as their production management handicraft artisans handicraft are achieved by implementing a series of training to improve the quality and design of products supported by the application of scraper machinery to refine the quality of produced handicrafts. The information technology marketing based-system was also applied into the activity.
