evidence in Indonesia
A B S T R A C T
This study examined and analysed the role of remote transformatonal leadership in
business strategy consensus by considering the contngency of compettve intensity
and organisatonal learning culture. The populaton of this study are owners or service
managers of start-up business companies in the provinces of DIY and East Java. The
sampling technique used was a purposive sampling method with a sample size of 231
managers. The data was collected through the distributon of questonnaires and
interviews with several key service managers who represent their companies.
Euclidean Distance Simple Regression and Euclidean Distance Simple Regression
Moderaton were used as the statstcal processing tools. The results of this study
proved a ft between each business strategy typology with each contngency variable
examined in this study. It was also found that transformatonal leadership could
strengthen the relatonship patern. The contngency approach is crucial because
situatons and conditons between organisatons may vary depending on the company’s
internal (organisatonal learning culture) and external (compettve intensity)
environment, especially in the era of the Covid-19 pandemic. Contngency ft in the
organisatonal strategy needs to be assessed so that the service performance can be
improved and sustainable in the long term. This situaton and conditon will improve
when strengthened by the role of remote transformatonal leadership.

Introduction
Undeniably, the Covid-19 pandemic positively
afected several start-up sectors, particularly payment
systems, logistics, agriculture, and health. On the other
hand, the tourism, e-commerce, and maritime sectors
were severely hit (cohive.space.com, 2021). Most pop-
ulations in these business start-ups are millennials
with a high digital presence, even though some have
only entered cyberspace for the frst time (Kriswinanto,
2020). Te Province of DIY and East Java, Indonesia,
