Abstract
In the present work, the study is done about composite material constituting of B
4
C particulate reinforced into
Al7010 matrix with different weight fractions of 3wt%, 6wt%, 9wt% which is fabricated using conventional melt stirring (stir
casting) method. Characterization of the prepared composites is studied in detail using Optical Microscope and Scanning
Electron
Microscope. The uniform distribution of B
4
C particulates in matrix was clearly evident from microstructure studies. The specimens
were T6 heat treated for aging period of 5hour. The wear test is conducted for both non-heat treated and heat treated specimens
using pin-on-disc method by considering parameters like load, speed and weight percentage of B
4
C. The wear results showed that
addition of B
4
C increased the wear resistance and it is found maximum for 9% addition of B
4
C.
