Barbarian representation in statuary art during the Late Antiquity Abstract During late antiquity, under the most intensive invasions that Romans ever experienced, the significant integration of barbarians into the Roman Empire was shaped. Hence complex interactions between Rome and the barbarians have been made, Roman Empire has also placed its influence on society, politics, religion, and arts placed on the barbarians. This paper will examine the representation of barbarians in several late antique Roman statuary works and, through the cognitive response of viewers from different perspectives between barbarians and Romans, now and past, determine how these representations reveal therelationshipss between barbarians and Roman Empire.
