The thought process consists of instrumental thinking processes and instrumental relational thinking processes. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. Students in one class are given a task sheet to do individually by writing clear work steps. Six students were selected as research subjects to analyze. Consisting of 2 subjects who have high math skills, 2 medium and 2 low. The process of thinking of a subject is observed by looking at and reviewing the answers to the assignment sheet and giving clinical interviews related to the results of his work. Based on data analysis, it was obtained an illustration that the subject did not have a good instrumental relational think- ing process. Generally, many subjects do not understand the concept of fractions, so it is wrong to change fractions to other forms, operate fractions and conclude answers. Keywords: Thought Process, Mathematical Understanding, Multiplication Operations and Fraction Division Tujuan penulisan artikel ini adalah untuk memperoleh gambaran mengenai proses berpikir siswa sekolah dasar dalam pemahaman matematik terkait materi perkalian dan pembagian pecahan. Proses berpikir terdiri dari proses berpikir instrumental dan proses berpikir relasional instrumental. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Siswa dalam satu kelas diberikan lembar tugas untuk dikerjakan secara individu dengan menuliskan langkah-langkah kerja secara jelas. Dipilih 6 siswa sebagai subjek penelitian untuk dianalisis. Terdiri dari 2 subjek yangmemiliki kemampuan matematika tinggi, 2 sedang dan 2 rendah. Proses berpikir subjek diamati dengan mencermati dan mengkaji jawaban lembartugas serta memberikan wawancara klinis terkait hasil pekerjaannya. Berdasarkan analisis data, diperoleh gambaran bahwa subjek belum memiliki proses berpikir relasional instrumentalyang baik. Umumnya banyak subjekyang tidak mema- hami konsep pecahan sehingga salah dalam merubah bentuk pecahan ke bentuk lain, mengoperasikan pecahan dan menyimpulkan jawaban.
