Myrna Nur Sakinah English Literature, Faculty of Adab and Humanities, UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung Muhammadsubhan857@gmail.com Abstract This study aims to analyze the physical structure and inner structure in the poem Rubaiyat by Umar Khayyam. The problems identified were the use of symbolic, ending rhymes as well as the themes used. To answer this problem, the author uses structural theory with descriptive methods to convey the results of the analysis that the author finds. Data were taken from 79 quatrains in the Rubaiyat poetry collection that the author obtained from the translation of the book Rubaiyat by Umar Khayyam. Then, the author analyzes the data based on the structure and elements contained in the poem and interprets the use of symbols on the meaning of the poem. The results showed that the theme used in Umar Khayyam's Rubaiyat poem as a whole contained love for the Divine, with final rhyme patterns a-a-a-a, a-a-b-b, and a-a-b-a. There are also several symbols such as wines, roses, and nightingales to deepen the meaning of the poem conveyed. The rubai is an Old Malay quaternary whose form comes from Arabic. In Arabic literature, there is an equivalent word to refer to the term rubai, namely dubayt. Du means two, while bayt means array. The term Rubaiyat in Persian is also referred to as kwatrin (quatrain). The word kwatrin comes from the Old French quatre and the Latin quattor. The quatre and quattor mean four. The term is clarified by the opinion of Ibnu Wahyudi and Melani Budianta (2002: 181-182) who state that "quatrain is a stanza consisting of four arrays with a variety of rhyme schemes. Kwatrin is the most common stanza form found in English poetry". Referring to the definition above, we can see that Rubaiyat has four stanzas in each line. With a composition that generally has an a-a-b-a rhyme pattern. The third line in a Rubaiyat stanza has the freedom to have a different dimension from the other three lines. Thus, Rubaiyat can have a variety of rhyme compositions such as a-a-b-a, a-a-c-a, or a-a-d-a. As for Arabic, Rubaiyat can have an a-a-a-a rhyme composition. Rubaiyat is a literary work in the form of a collection of poems that has a beautiful message. It was written by Omar Khayyam in the early 11th century. In 1857, exactly 7 centuries after
