NEED OF THE STUDY Eating disorders are common health problem afflicting mainly female adolescents and young women. They are associated with important physical health and psychosocial morbidity and carry increased risk of health. Their cause is not yet completely understood and their management is complex, with patients resisting all available treatments. The National Eating Disorders Association indicates that an estimated 5-20% of those who have anorexia nervosa will not survive complications associated with it. This means that anorexia has one of the highest mortality rates of all mental disorders for those who receive treatment; the mortality rate is far lower, at 2-3%. PROBLEM STATEMENT A study to assess the effectiveness of planned teaching programme on knowledge regarding eating disorders among adolescent girls in the selected schools of Jabalpur city, (MP).
