Introduction Teaching is an important function of university. Its importance emerges from its being connected with preparing students to work within society. During the last two decades, university teaching started to receive a lot of attention. Universities all over the world started making changes in their regulations and policies, taking teaching competence into consideration when appointing faculty or awarding them tenure. They also established academic centres responsible for professional development and training of faculty, including training in teaching to ensure that faculty possess the necessary teaching competencies. Moreover, they have started to pay attention to classrooms and their equipment with the necessary educational resources and technologies that can help faculty to make effective teaching. Changes in university teaching have also included some other aspects, such as shifting from teacher-centred to student-centred approaches in teaching which place students in the centre of the learning process, using various instructional materials (handouts, websites, textbooks, multimedia materials, etc.) rather than depending mainly on printed materials, and assessing students through various tools not just standardized tests. 2. Factors affecting university teaching quality There are some main factors that can affect the quality of university teaching, including university regulations, faculty, classroom environment, instructional materials, teaching strategies, and assessment methods.
