la traducción del teatro de vanguardia en las revistas literarias: El Orfeo de Jean Cocteau en la Revista de Occidente 1 DAVID MARíN HERNáNDEZ Universidad de Málaga Abstract The desire of renewing the Spanish theatre in the early 20 th century led many Spa- nish critics to focus their attention on foreign playwrights who were exploring new ways of theatrical expression. Translation became during this period a useful tool which allowed to incorporate into Spanish literary system plays which were representative of the new European trends. The Spanish periodical Revista de Occidente did not remain indifferent to the debate on the renewal of the Spanish theatre. Many avant-garde plays were translated in this literary review in order to support these new ways of expression. The French playwright Jean Cocteau was one of the authors that caught the attention of the RO contributors. The aim of this paper is to examine the translation that Corpus Barga made of Cocteau’s Orphée, entirely published in the RO in 1927. Resumen La voluntad de renovar el teatro español a principios de siglo XX dirigió las miradas de muchos críticos hacia aquellos autores extranjeros que exploraban nuevas estéticas. La traducción supuso un instrumento para incorporar a nuestro sistema literario obras extranjeras vanguardistas que mostraban las nuevas tendencias europeas. La Revista de Occidente no permaneció ajena al debate sobre la renovación del teatro español. En las páginas de la RO se tradujeron obras vanguardistas con el objetivo de respaldar estas nuevas vías expresivas. El dramaturgo francés Jean Cocteau fue uno de los autores que más llamó la atención de los colaboradores de la revista, a juzgar por los numero- sos artículos, semblanzas biográfcas y reseñas de los que fue objeto.
