(Moraceae) is a deciduous, laticifer, spreading tree indigenous to Asia Minor, Persia, Syria, Mediterranean region and Indian subcontinent. The bark is antiseptic, bitter, febrifuge, tonic and vermicidal, and a decoction of the bark is taken to treat diabetes, skin diseases and ulcers. Phytochemical investigation of a methanolic extract of its stem bark resulted in the isolation of four new phytoconstituents characterized as 6-methoxy- β-D-glucopyranosyl- (1→4')-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (methoxy diglucoside, 1), n-decanoyl O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(2ʹ→1ʹʹ)-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (caproyl diglucoside, 2), 3,4-dipalmityl 5-β-D-galactopyranosyl gallic acid (gallic acid galactosidic dipalmitate, 3) and vanillic acid 4-O-β-D- arabinopyranosyl-(2a→1b)-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(2b→1c)-O-β-D- glucopyranosyl- (2c→1d)-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl- (2d→1e)-O-β-D- glucopyranosyl- (2e→1f)-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl- (2f→1g)-O-β-D- glucopyranosyl- 4a-O-heptan-6′-one, (vanillin 4-O-heptaglycosidic heptan-6′ -one, 4). The structures of isolated phytoconstituents were established on the basis of analysis of spectral data and chemical means.
