1 Foreword
The Southeastern International Conference on Combinatorics, Graph Theory, and
Computing (SEICCGTC) celebrates over a half-century as the foremost institution
promoting the advances and impact of our discipline. From its modest beginning
in March 1970, alternating between Louisiana State University and Florida Atlantic
University for two decades, it soon found its longtime home at the FAU campus in
Boca Raton, Florida, organized every March by Professor Fred Hoffman. Researchers
in the areas covered by the conference gather each year to lecture on their recent
results, and to collaborate on future ideas and work on ongoing joint projects.
Participants have included researchers from hundreds of colleges and universities,
businesses, industry, and government agencies, as well as graduate, undergraduate,
and high school students. The conference’s five days are full of academic activity.
There are plenary lectures by researchers in the field at various stages of their careers,
from rising young stars to distinguished veteran contributors to the disciplines, along
with leaders in related fields with exciting results to communicate. Parallel sessions
of contributed papers are presented throughout the week, including several special
sessions highlighting selected areas of research, or organized according to some other
theme. To promote informal joint discussions, the conference organizes evening social
events, an optional afternoon excursion, and problem sessions, with the intention
to disseminate and stimulate research and foster collaboration. The conference has
achieved much success in this regard, planting the seeds of many books, articles, and
new ideas.
A volume of 21 research surveys by leading experts [1] has been published in
celebration of the 50th conference, capturing some of the flavor of the areas that have
been presented at the SEICCGTC over its many years. It affords readers an idea of the
breadth and depth of what has been presented at the conference and outside it, as well
