Museum ini berlokasi di jalan H. M. Jhoni No.51 Medan. Museum Negeri Propinsi Sumatera Utara memiliki berbagai macam jenis koleksi sejarah, koleksi tersebut berguna sebagai bahan pembuktian sejarah alam, budaya manusia dan lingkungannya serta dapat menggambarkan identitas suatu bangsa. Pada saat ini Muesum Negeri Propinsi Sumatera Utara mengalami penurunan pengunjung setiap tahunnya. Penurunan pengunjung ini disebabkan karena tidak ada daya tarik museum di mata masyarakat. Maka dari itu diperlukan pembenahan terhadap museum tersebut.Bentuk museum dalam pengembangan ini masih mengikuti bentuk asal dari bangunan museum, hanya saja ada penambahan lantai pada bangunan dan menjadikan bangunan yang awalnya merupakan bangunan multi massa menjadi bangunan satu massa Kata Kunci : Pengembangan Museum Negeri Propinsi Sumatera Utara, Arsitektur Vernakular. Abstract State Museum of North Sumatra Province is one of the museums in Medan City that has been pioneered since 1954. The museum is located on Jalan H. M. Jhoni No.51 Medan. State Museum of North Sumatra Province has various types of historical collections, the collection is useful as a substance of natural history, human culture and the environment and can describe the identity of a nation. At this time the State Muesum of North Sumatra Province has decreased visitors every year. The drop in visitors is due to the lack of museum attraction in the eyes of the public. Therefore the museum is needed in the development of this museum. The form of museum in this development is still following the original form of the museum building, it's just that there are additional floors in the building and make the building which was originally a multi-mass building into one mass building Keywords: Development of the State Museum of North Sumatra Province, Vernacular Architecture.
