Geographical indications are regulated in Law No. 20 of 2016 concerning Marks and Geographical Indications. The research method used in this study is empirical juridical. The results of this study are first, local Bengkulu products have not been registered for IG by the community and the Bengkulu Provincial Government under the auspices of the Bengkulu Province Industry and Trade Service because there are several obstacles, namely difficulties in compiling Documents Description of Geographical Indications due to a lack of experts, difficulty looking for characteristics or characteristics of Bengkulu local products, lack of public knowledge and lack of intensive outreach about IG evenly to the people of Bengkulu. Second, the efforts made by the community and the Bengkulu Provincial Government to protect local products from the perspective of intellectual property law (IPR), especially the potential for geographic indications (IG), are conducting socialization, conducting Technical Guidance (Bimtek) every year in districts/cities, facilitating IG registration, the Provincial Government continues to coordinate with Regency/City governments regarding GI socialization, and an effort that can be made by the community to protect local products is by registering IG.
