INTRODUCTION Slang are very informal words, often transient, and which are usually used for communication with closest colleagues and used by people of all ages and social groups Legère et al., (2013). Thus, most of the slang words come from shortened words such as “branch (breakfast and lunch)”, “cuz (because)” and also words that combine two or more words such as “gonna (go to)”, “(get well soon)” and so on. Slang is a way to separate insiders from outsiders, this way can distinguish one's own group linguistically from other groups. Slang also has a function in society. One of which is sharing thoughts, concerns, provisions, interests, and other activities that address common conversational topics and related areas for discussion. Apart from everyday life, slang words are also commonly found in movies, dramas, novels and social media. The research problem of this article is type of slang words in YouTube video Joji judge’s boba tea battle between Rich Brian and Niki and problem solve planning by categorizing types at slang words proposed by Allan and Burridge. Suhardianto & Ambalegin, (2017) stated that slang is prohibited from use in a formal way because it is reflected to impoliteness, vulgarity, and rudeness in society. Slang can ABSTRACT This research aimed to analyze the slang words found in the YouTube video Joji Judges a Boba Tea Battle between Rich Brian and Niki. To find out the types of slang used by participants in the video. This descriptive qualitative research focused on the types of slang words in this video according to Alan and Burridge theories. Method of collecting data by the observation in the observational method with non-participatory technique. In analyzing the data, this research used the method of free listening and take note technique proposed by Sudaryanto. From this research, the results showed that there were 30 data of slang: 2 slang terms in flippant such as I was like ready to rip on it, 4 slang terms in clipping, 4 slang words in imitative, and 20 slang words in fresh and creative, and there are no slang words in the acronym. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the most widely used slang type is the acronym form and the least flippant. Keywords: slang word, slang types, sosiolinguistics.
