Toshowthewiderapplicabilityofourmethod,theparticularstrengthofthemagneticfieldwherethenuclearspin fliptransitionisindependentofthemagneticfieldstrengthwasintensionallynotused.Theconfiningfieldsofthelinear combinedtraphavetheadvantageofsimpleandefficientconcentrationoftheionsintothepotentialminimumatthe centerofthetrap,whenlasercoolingofthestoredionsisperformed.Thefeasibilityofsingleionspectroscopywasalso demonstratedand,whenfullyimplementedwillfacilitatetheon-linestudyofshortlivedisotopes,whichcanonlybe producedinminutenumbers.
