Com uma abordagem qualitativa observacional e documental, tem como base os conhecimentos prévios do lugar e o objetivo de identificar os impactos socioambientais provenientes do descarte dos resíduos sólidos em lixões a céu aberto. Os resultados alcançados mostraram que a população itamaratiense, não se diferindo das demais cidades brasileiras, ainda faz o descarte em lixões a céu aberto próximo a área urbana, ficando perceptível que os resíduos quando não tratados e despejados podem causar sérios impactos ao meio ambiente e, consequentemente, à sociedade, a longo ou em curto prazo, dependendo de sua intensidade. Palavras-chave: Educação Ambiental; Resíduos Sólidos; Cidade de Itamarati. Abstract: The article is a study that describes the main social and environmental impacts of the dump. Based on a qualitative observational and documentary approach, the study is based on previous knowledge of the place and the objective of identifying, through a geographical perspective, the socio-environmental impacts arising from the disposal of solid waste in open dumps.The results achieved throughout the research showed that the population of Itamarati, not differing from other brazilian cities, still disposes of garbage in open dumps near the urban area, making it noticeable that the waste when not treated and dumped into the air open can cause serious impacts to the environment and, consequently, to society, in the long or short term, depending on their intensity.
