It is a strategy to attract pupils to get enrolled in school, attend school regularly, reduce the incidence of drop-out, and perhaps improve pupils’ academic performance. This study set out to investigate whether there is a significant impact of the programme on enrolment and academic performance. The quantitative research methodology was adopted for use in the study. Two research hypotheses were stated to guide the course of the study. The study used the ex-post facto, that is, causal-comparative research design to achieve its objectives. The target population of the study includes 6,336 Ogun State’s public primary schools. Both stratified and simple random sampling were used in the study as a sampling strategy to select four schools where records were obtained for the study. Records of primary school pupils on enrolment and academic performance were obtained from the four schools and the data gathered were analysed with SPSS version 20, using frequency and percentage (descriptive statistics) and paired sample t-test (inferential statistics). Findings reveal that pupils’ enrolment decreased during the 2020/21 academic session when the SFP was suspended compared to their enrolment in 2018/19 when the programme was fully implemented in schools. Also, it was found that pupils’ academic performance did not decrease as a result of the suspension of the programme. It was therefore concluded that the SFP has an impact on the enrolment rate of pupils in public primary schools and that the suspension or irregular implementation of the programme may not affect the academic performance of public primary school pupils. It was therefore recommended among other things that the government at the federal and state levels should map out a strategy to ensure that the programme is consistently implemented so that the government’s concern about the alarming rate of out-of-school children and child malnutrition can be effectively taken care of when enrolment rate is increased.
