We will consider the journal in terms of the content, source, and nature of submissions, and also aspects pertaining to world Englishes and academic writing. The journal provides a strong regional voice and platform for research on the forms and functions of English, as informed by world Englishes and related paradigms. In this entry, the term “world Englishes” is used as an umbrella term to include work done on world Englishes, English as an international language, and English as a lingua franca (D’Angelo, 2007). The sections that follow provide background information on Asian Englishes, consider some theoretical issues related to world Englishes vis-à-vis academic publishing, look at some specifc data regarding the journal, conclude with discussion and fndings from this brief study, and consider current debates and future prospects. It is hoped that by investigating some practical matters in the case of Asian Englishes, it may provide those working in the world Englishes feld some insights into the parameters which must be taken into account in bringing forth a journal in today’s increasingly globalizing world.
