Abstrak: Tujuan kajian ini dijalankan untuk meninjau keberhasilan multimedia jenis bercerita
terhadap penguasaan bahasa kanak-kanak. Seramai 5 kanak-kanak prasekolah berumur 6
tahun daripada sebuah sekolah di Melaka terlibat dalam kajian ini. Pengumpulan data
dijalankan secara kualitatif dengan pendekatan kajian kes. Sebanyak 2 sesi bercerita diadakan
untuk melihat keberkesanan penggunaan multimedia terhadap penghasilan kosa kata oleh
subjek kajian, iaitu sesi bercerita tanpa dan dengan multimedia berbanding tanpa multimedia.
Data kemudian dianalisis berdasarkan 6 elemen yang terdapat dalam Teori Norma
Engagement Multimedia Design (NEMD) Dapatan kajian merekodkan pertambahan kosa kata
meningkat sebanyak 66 kosa kata oleh subjek kajian pada sesi bercerita dengan multimedia.
Hasil kajian ini juga menunjukkan apabila kanak-kanak didedahkan dengan alat intervensi
bercirikan multimedia, mereka dapat melakukan ujaran lisan lebih banyak dan memainkan
peranan secara aktif dalam kumpulan bercerita. Oleh yang demikian, kajian ini berpotensi
diperkembang dengan mempelbagaikan jenis multimedia yang dapat merangsang keupayaan
berbahasa kanak-kanak dengan lebih efektif dan berkesan.

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of narrative-based
multimedia on children's language acquisition. Five 6-year-old preschool children from a
school in Melaka participated in this study. Data collection was conducted qualitatively using
a case study approach. Two storytelling sessions were held to observe the effectiveness of
multimedia usage on the production of vocabulary by the subjects, comparing sessions with
and without multimedia. The data was then analysed based on the six elements found in the
Norma Engagement Multimedia Design (NEMD) Theory. The study findings recorded a
significant increase of 66 vocabulary produced by the subjects during the storytelling session
with multimedia. This study also showed that when children are exposed to multimedia
intervention tools, they are able to engage in more oral expression and actively participate in
storytelling groups. Therefore, this study has the potential to be further developed by
diversifying the types of multimedia that can effectively stimulate children's language abilities.
