Abstract
Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) has found its place in many applica-
tions due to its advantages like robustness to channel fading, spectral efciency and high
data rate. Long Term Evolution and Wi-Fi utilises OFDM. Some practical limitations faced
by OFDM are Inter carrier Interference(ICI) and Peak to Average Power Ratio(PAPR).
Many schemes to combat the ICI and PAPR are available. In this paper, we analyze the dif-
ferent ICI self cancellation techniques proposed in literature. Further, these techniques are
integrated with wavelet based OFDM. ICI Self Cancellation techniques for wavelet OFDM
are compared under diferent channels using Simulink.

1 Introduction
OFDM is a multi-carrier modulation technique where the carriers are choosen to be
orthogonal to reduce the interference among sub-carriers and increase the spectral ef-
ciency. To generate orthogonal subcarriers, employment of discrete fourier transform has
been suggested by Weinstein and Ebert [1]to remove the use of sinusoidal generators and
demodulators. Recent research has found that wavelet transform is a better alternative over
Fourier transform [2]. A major problem faced by OFDM model is due to the distortions
like carrier frequency ofset and phase noise which disturbs orthogonality and causes ICI
[3]. To overcome the limitations faced by OFDM model that is intercarrier interference and
peak to average power ratio, many techniques have been proposed in literature. Symmetric
self cancellation was frst technique proposed in year 2000 [4] where data is sent over two
carriers symmetric to each other that is x(k) = x(N − 1 − k). This led to many advancements
in reducing ICI. Adjacent self cancellation (x(k) = x(k + 1)) [5], adjacent data conjugate
