Vol.8 No.4:138 Introducton Recurrent Aphthous Stomatts (RAS) is one of the most common pathologic conditons with ulcers in the oral mucosa. RAS is manifested in the oral mucosa, as a single or multple recurring ulcer, painful with erythematous halo [1,2]. Epidemiologic studies have reported an average prevalence of 17% of the total populaton [2,3]. A successful treatment of aphthous stomatts requires proper diagnosis and control of possible etologic Received: October 12, 2017; Accepted: November 20, 2017; Published: November 27, 2017 Abstract Background and purpose: Due to the large number of studies on traditonal and herbal treatments for oral aphthous and lack of comprehensive studies on these cases, the purpose of this research was to study and careful analysis of the efectveness of herbal medicines used in the treatment of these lesions and reported the fnal outcome that one of the best study methods in these cases is a systematc review. Methods: Five electronic databases (PubMed, ISI web of science, Scopus, Cochrane and OVID) by keywords based on the PICO were searched to identfy all the clinical trials with topical and systemic therapeutc interventons aimed at treatng or preventng recurrence published in Persian or English that related to the efects of drugs of natural herbal origin for the treatment of recurrent aphthous stomatts from 2010 to 2015. A structured and standardized form has been used to extract data. Title, journal, year of publicaton and the feld of the frst author and corresponding author were recorded. Standard tools of risk of bias used in the systematc review studies that has been developed by the Cochrane (Last update 2011) was applied to investgate bias in the studies. Results: In the current study a total of 33 trials were analyzed. These studies were assessed the efectveness of 29 diferent herbal drugs for RAS treatment. Only fve studies were assessed as being at medium risk of bias. No study had a low risk of bias. There were insufcient evidences to support or refute the use of these interventons. Conclusion: In summary, current data suggested that there was a benefcial efect in using topical treatments with plant origin for RAS and no study did not report any side efects. Though due to very weak report and disparate studies, acknowledging the fact that which herbal treatment was the best and most efectve treatment was not possible. None of the treatments have been satsfactory due to the widespread factors; however, there is a wide range of them. The etology of aphthous stomatts is not fully known [4-10]. Treatng aphthous stomatts is symptomatc and is mainly based on empirical evidence [5]. Prescribed drugs must be related to the severity of the disease [2]. Conventonal aphthous stomatts treatments include antseptcs, ant-infammaton, analgesics, antbiotcs, cortcosteroids, local anesthesia, lasers and herbal medicine [11]. Therefore, cortcosteroids and analgesics are the
