Solar energy is the most desirable renewable energy resource to fight with the energy and pollution problem in the country simultaneously. There are new emerging solar technologies like Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) and hybrid technologies. Hybrid solar Photovoltaic-Thermal (PV-T) collector of parabolic trough using a-Si thin film solar cells is designed for Indian market. The system consists a parabolic trough to concentrate sunlight towards a CPC containing a-Si solar cells. The parabolic concentrator is used to generate electricity as it contains a-Si solar cells but is also used to further concentrate sunlight towards thermal collector. Most of the high-energy photons present in sunlight is absorbed by a-Si solar cells and converted into electricity and remaining energy photons reflected and concentrated towards thermal collector, thus exergy output of the system and utilization factor of the solar radiation is increased. The concentration takes place at two stages which enable us to reach higher temperatures at thermal collector. This design has potential to generate electricity as well as thermal energy at the same time. This thermal energy can be further used in electricity generation or other desirable purposes. Amorphous Si solar cells are easily available in Indian market at affordable prices unlike other thin film solar cells. A-Si Cells are used in PV-T hybrid system because of their availability in India market and their sustainability at higher working tempera- tures. The electrical efficiency measured from the device is 14.93% and average thermal temperature dif- ference at thermal collector measured is 11.40F. Ó 2020 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. Introduction Renewable energy sources help to alleviate greenhouse gas emission and increasing rate of global warming by [1]. The gener- ation of energy from renewable energy sources is enhancing greatly. Because of the increment of contamination in world, there is requirement to provide awareness on evolution of projects, strategy formulating and performances in renewable energy tech- nologies and their executions. Renewable Energy are perceiving as contamination unconfined vitality origin and best utilization of these assets assists to decrease the environmental bang and to grow sustainably in compliance accompanied by present commu- nal requirements of the society. Renewable Energy technologies give an enormous chance to decrease the emissions of greenhouse gas and also decrease the global warming by restoring traditional energy sources. For contamination free environment all over the world, Renewable Energy will play the significant part, it is a cata- lyst that can be utilized to produce energy accompanied by the assist of wind, biomass and solar etc. It produces enormous energy source without any pollution of emission, with the actual execu- tion, it can decrease the pollution such as PM10, PM25 etc. that are important origins pollution of air. Solar energy is one of the renewable source of energy without any pollution, which can be stored by the utilization of various technologies. It is the better process for the energy problems for the long-run, which are now crucial issue for the globe and countries like India.
