Rodríguez Marin 3 ABSTRACT At its 2000 meeting in Madrid (Spain), the SCRS endorsed several research activities considered essential to the future of the BYP. The SCRS recommended exploratory research sampling of larvae and spawning sized bluefin tuna and the associated oceanographic conditions in the central Atlantic as outlined in SCRS/00/125, as well as, in the Balearic Islands region. The present document outlines the research proposal formulated by the Instituto Español de Oceanografía (IEO) focused on a bluefin tuna egg and larval survey (TUNIBAL 06/01) to carry out off the Balearic archipelago during June of this year, together with associated research activities related to the characterization of the bluefin tuna spawning environment, as well as, on its fishing fleet activities. A discussion guide for certain standardizing elements is also provided. RÉSUMÉ Lors de sa réunion de 2000 à Madrid, Espagne, le SCRS a entériné plusieurs activités de recherche qui étaient jugées essentielles pour l = avenir du BYP. Le SCRS a recommandé la recherche par un échantillonnage expérimental de larves et de thons rouges de la taille de géniteurs, ainsi que des conditions océanographiques associées dans l = Atlantique central, comme l = exposait le document SCRS/00/125, ainsi que dans l = archipel des Baléares. Le présent document fait état de la proposition de recherche formulée par l = Institut Espagnol d= Océanographie (IEO) qui met l= accent sur la prospection des oeufs et larves de thon rouge (TUNIBAL 06/01) à effectuer au large de l = archipel des Baléares au mois de juin de cette année, avec des activités annexes de recherche sur les caractéristiques de l= environnement du frai du thon rouge, ainsi que sur les activités de sa flottille de pêche. Un guide pour les débats sur certains éléments de la standardisation est également fourni. RESUMEN La reunión del SCRS celebrada en Madrid (España) durante el año 2000 consideró esencial apoyar varias actividades de investigación fundamentales para el futuro del BYP. La SCRS recomendó la realización de campañas exploratorias de larvas y de atún rojo reproductor, así como el estudio de las condiciones oceanográficas asociadas en el Atlántico Central (SCRS/00/125) y en el entorno de las Islas Baleares. Este documento describe la propuesta de investigación formulada por el Instituto Español de Oceanografía con el objetivo principal de llevar a cabo una campaña exploratoria de larvas de atún rojo en aguas de las Islas Baleares durante el mes de Junio, 2001 (TUNIBAL 06/01).
