Considering this fact in this paper, an analysis of the importance and role of the cadastre for spatial planning was carried out, whereby the obligations and procedures implemented by the cadastre in the spatial and urban planning situation in the Republic of Serbia are described in detail. INTRODUCTION The analysis of the situation in sphere of spatial and urban planning in Serbia indicates that it is necessary to approach systematic revision, finishing and completing a number of spatial and urban plans in order to create as wider possibilities for ongoing construction and consolidation of settlements with illegally built facilities (unplanned / informal settlements) . The developed world is today faced with a significant need for land use programs and Резиме: Када се говори о просторном планирању, немогуће је заобићи катастар, који у суштини представља основ за израду и реализацију планских докумената. Обзиром на ту чињеницу у овом раду је извршена анализа значаја и улоге катастра за просторно планирање, при чему су детаљно описане обавезе и поступци које катастар проводи у ситуацијама везаним за просторно и урбанистичко планирање у Републици Србији. Кључне речи: катастар, просторно планирање, планска документација 1. УВОД Анализе стања у сфери просторног и урбанистичког планирања у Србији, указују да је неопходно приступити систематској ревизији, доради и употпуњавању већег броја просторних и урбанистичких планова ради стварања што ширих могућности за текућу изградњу и за консолидацију насеља са бесправно подигнутим објектима (непланска - неформална насеља).
