Nuhamara 3 Program Studi Pendidikan Matematika, Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan, Universitas Kristen Wira Wacana Sumba Email: elsysenides@unkriswina.ac.id 1 Abstract This type of research is descriptive qualitative research which aims to determine the difficulty of counting students of Kanatang State Special School. The subjects used in this study consisted of 5 students. This research was conducted through semi-structured interviews and observations of several students during the interviews. The results showed that the difficulty in counting formed by each student was different. There were 3 students experienced visual-motor associations, and all students had difficulty in mentioning signs and distinguishing signs. Difficulty in distinguishing numbers was also experienced by 2 out of 5 students. Furthermore, there are other difficulties outside the aspect that must be investigated, namely the persistence that occurred in 2 students and had an impact on the students' final work results. The first pattern of numeracy difficulties was visual-motor association, difficulty mentioning signs, difficulty distinguishing signs, difficulty using number counting operations with Another difficulty is persistence. the second difficulty in counting is visual-motor association, difficulty distinguishing numbers, difficulty in pronouncing signs, difficulty in distinguishing signs, and ending with difficulties in using arithmetic operations. Abstrak Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui kesulitan berhitung siswa Sekolah Luar Biasa Negeri Kanatang. Subyek yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini terdiri dari 5 siswa.Penelitian ini dilakukan melalui wawancara semistruktur serta pengamatan respon dari siswa selama wawancara berlangsung. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kesulitan berhitung yang terbentuk oleh setiap siswa adalah berbeda.Terdapat 3 siswa mengalami asosiasi visual-motor, dan semua siswa kesulitan dalam menyebutkan tanda dan membedakan tanda.Kesulitan dalam membedakan angka juga dialami oleh 2 dari 5 siswa. Selanjutnya terdapat kesulitan lain diluar aspek yang diteliti yaitu perseverasi yang terjadi pada 2 siswa dan berdampak pada hasil pekerjaan akhir siswa.Pola kesulitan berhitung yang pertama adalah asosiasi visual-motor, kesulitan menyebutkan tanda, kesulitan membedakan tanda, kesulitan menggunakan operasi hitung bilangan disertai kesulitan lainnya yaitu perseverasi. Kesulitan berhitung yang kedua adalah asosiasi visual- motor, kesulitan membedakan angka, kesulitan menyebutkan tanda, kesulitan membedakan tanda, dan berakhir pada kesulitan menggunakan operasi hitung bilangan.
