Intention to use Maternity Waiting Home among Pregnant Women in Jimma District, Southwest Ethiopia By Getnet Bayih Endalew, Lakew Abebe Gebretsadik & Abraham Tamirat Gizaw Jimma University Abstract- Introduction: Maternity waiting homes (MWHs) are temporary shelters for pregnant women located near to health institutions and endorsed as one component of a comprehensive package to reduce maternal morbidity. Maternal health is one of the major worldwide health challenges. In Ethiopia, access to comprehensive emergency obstetric care is limited. Objective: To assess intention to use maternity waiting home among pregnant women in Jimma District, Southwest Ethiopia. Method: Facility based cross sectional study design was conducted from March 06-30/2016. Pregnant women attending Antenatal Care(ANC) clinics were taken by using consecutive sampling technique. Single population proportion formula used to calculate 387 pregnant women. Data was collected through face-to-face interview technique by trained data collectors. Data was entered and analyzed using SPSS version 20.0 statistical package. Multiple linear regression analysis was done to identify predictors of intention at 95% confidence level and P < 0.05 was used to determine statistically significant association.
