Analysis of School Principals’ Practices Regarding Their Occupational Health
and Safety Liabilities

Abstract
The aim of this study is to examine the practices of school principals working in
official schools regarding their occupational health and safety obligations in their
schools and if any, to reveal their deficiencies, and to make suggestions for
eliminating these deficiencies. There search was conducted with descriptive survey
model in qualitative research type. In this context, the study group of the study
was determined by the easily accessible sampling method as 12 official school
principals affiliated to Ministry of National Education in Konak district of İzmir
province in the fall semester of 2018-2019 academic year. In the research, in order
to collect data, semi-structured interview form developed by the researcher with
expert opinion was used, face-to-face interviews were conducted with school
principals in order to examine the practices implemented by school principals
within the scope of occupational health and safety. The data were analyzed by
content analysis method. As a result of the research, it was found out that school
principals are aware of their obligations in the legal context and that they are
trying to implement occupational health and safety practices in the schools they
are in charge of, and that they have various problems especially financial
resources.
