Abstract: The spread of international migration movements around the world and the increase in the effects
of these movements on countries keep the migration debates on the agenda. International migrations, which
are largely based on economic reasons, affect the destination and source countries economically, socially,
politically and culturally. When Turkey is considered within the scope of international migration regimes,
while it is a country that gives labor migration to Western European countries, it has become a country of
immigration as of the 2000s. Migration movements in Turkey are increasing due to both geographical
location and economic, political and security problems of neighboring countries. In addition to the fact that
Turkey has important sea routes, it causes intense immigrant inflows and being used as a transit country by
immigrants as it connects the Asian, European and African continents. The increase in international migrant
workers coming to Turkey after the 1990s reveals the importance of the economic effects of these migrations.
In this direction, it is aimed to determine the relationship between the number of migrant workers granted
work permit in Turkey and unemployment, inflation and economic growth. Monthly data for the period
2008-2020 were used in the analysis in which the relationship between macroeconomic variables and
international migration was investigated. In the study, in which Time Series Analysis was used in the
empirical analysis, a positive relationship was found between the unemployment rate and the immigrant labor
force granted work permit in Turkey between the years 2008-2020, according to the ARDL limit test results.
While no relationship could be found between the inflation rate and the migrant workforce, it was determined
that economic growth was the Granger cause of the increase in the number of international migrant workers.
Structured Abstract: The phenomenon of migration emerges as an active process that goes beyond national
borders such as capital, financial movements and information flow. Today, the number of immigrants
residing outside their own country has reached a total of 281 million people in 2020. According to 2020 data,
65% (182 million) of international migrants worldwide live in high-income countries. While 31% (86
million) are located in middle-income countries, the majority prefer high-middle-income countries. In
addition, approximately 12 million immigrants reside in low-income countries. This number corresponds to
