Wastewater management must pay attention to design dimentions of the settling pond, where the dimentions of the settling pond are influenced by runoff discharge from open areas due to mining activities. Wastewater problems from coal mining activities at PT. XXX, East Kalimantan is the concentration of waste water parameters that do not meet the required quality standards and there is a potential for discharge of wastewater that cannot be accomodated in the settling pond. The research method used is descriptive quantitative method. Based on the analysis, some parameters such as pH that not fulfill the quality standart at the outlet settling pond TJL Utara-01 which is 4,93 and TJL Selatan which is 4,96 where the threshold value of the quality standart is 6-9. Parameters must be monitored for activities coal mining based on Perda Kaltim 02 of 2011 is pH, TSS, Fe and Mn. Value volume of retention pond, where the TJL Utara-01 is 2,79 m 3 /hour, TJL Utara-02 is 95,63 m 3 /hour and TJL Selatan is 23,58 m 3 /hour. Settling ponds TJL Utara-01 and TJL Selatan at PT. XXX, is not effective in collecting wastewater because some concentrations of wastewater parameters that do not meet quality standards. The greater the volume of the pond, the wastewater quality will meet the quality standard, due to physical treatment. Pengelolaan air limbah harus memperhatikan rancangan dimensi settling pond yang dipengaruhi debit limpasan dari areal terbuka akibat aktivitas penambangan. Permasalahan air limbah dari kegiatan pertambangan batubara di PT. XXX, Kalimantan Timur adalah konsentrasi parameter air limbah yang tidak memenuhi baku mutu dan ada potensi debit air limbah yang tidak mampu tertampung pada settling pond. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif kuantitatif. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data masih terdapat parameter pH yang belum memenuhi baku mutu pada outlet settling pond TJL Utara-01 yaitu 4,93 dan TJL Selatan yaitu 4,96 dimana nilai ambang batas baku mutu pH adalah 6 9.
