Given the changing global landscape (a result of geopolitical developments and tensions, increased competition for global talent, health and sustainability concerns, nationalism, and other factors), high-income and even middle-income non-Anglophone countries are expected in the coming years to become more active in attracting international students. But these countries are likely to encounter obstacles in their policies and strategies, as clearly illustrated by the country cases analyzed in this book. Understanding their recruitment opportunities and challenges is of high importance for non-Anglo- phone countries. In this concluding chapter, we address lessons learned from the thematic and country case chapters and provide key recommendations for interna- tional student recruitment in a non-Anglophone context. As a start, we summarize key strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) related to interna- tional student recruitment by non-Anglophone countries and their institutions, based on the SWOT analyses in the country case chapters. SWOT analysis Non-Anglophone countries develop ways to overcome the barriers to international student recruitment with which they are confronted. Many of them have estab- lished national policies and practices, use competitive tuition fee policies, adjust their immigration regulations, use opportunities for regional collaboration, design competitive and diversifed education programs, and even ofer programs in a lan- guage other than their national language, in particular in English. In addition, many countries make use of their specifc advantages, such as their position in their region, regional partnerships, low tuition fees of domestic education, etc.
