74 Ifedayo Akinwalere and Emmanuel Olukunle Olumuji Article Influence of Television Media in Curbing COVID-19 Virus Spread in Lagos Metropolis Ifedayo Akinwalere 1 Emmanuel Olukunle Olumuji 2 Abstract The study examined the influence of Channels television in curbing coronavirus in Lagos. The media play a major role in curbing the spread of coronavirus, and these influences are still not oblivious to many. Media framing theory served as the theoretical framework for the study while Survey method was the selected method for the study. Primary data were obtained through structured questionnaire administered to 400 residents of Lagos State with a response rate of 94.2% of the total respondents. Findings reveal that Channels television station informed the populace about the rules and regulations to follow in order not to contract coronavirus (99.7%), informed the audience of the benefits of coronavirus vaccine (99.2%), created awareness about the existence of COVID-19 pandemic (98.9%), informed the people about the risks attached to coronavirus pandemic (91.0%) and created awareness about the coronavirus vaccine (89.9%). Furthermore, 82.4% of the respondents indicated that Channels television’s reportage of coronavirus had a positive influence on their perception of the virus. The study concludes that Channels television adequately disseminated information on the virus to the public. The study, therefore, recommends that television stations in Nigeria should continue to disseminate public health news in manner that encourages precautionary measures.
