some suggestions for further reading. This book is suitable for an introduc-
tory course to modern political thought or ethics, or in preparation to read-
ing one or more of Mill’s works. It offers a wider assessment of the British
philosopher and successfully proves that it is worthwhile to read Mill today,
particularly in a classroom.

“Ethics in Action for Sustainable Development” is the result of a series
of studies that aim to lay the conceptual foundations for a better future by
exploring diverse religious and philosophical views in the context of the
evolving and changing world order. It attempts to establish a connection
between the teachings of major religions and non-religious philosophical
ethical perspectives with the goals of sustainable development. The book
argues that the realization of sustainable development goals, which will
determine the future of our only planet, can be made possible by uniting
different worldviews and cultures under the common good. The idea of a
“shared plan for a single world” advocated by Pope Francis and Orthodox
Patriarch Bartholomew, who have jointly written the foreword to the book, is
addressed throughout the book both directly and indirectly. In addition, even
though this foreword was written by the heads of the Catholic Church and
the Orthodox Church, it is a message inviting all stakeholders in the world
to collaborate. Another important emphasis of the book is the conversion
of ethics into action, highlighting its indispensable role as a constituent for
achieving the desired ideals. It is emphasized through the concept of action
that it is not enough just to discuss the ethical principles and values, but it is
also important to put them into practice through tangible actions and deci-
sions. Therefore, besides being a fundamental work that every policymaker
and implementer should read and possess, the book is recommended for
academics, researchers, and undergraduate students interested in the role of
ethics due to its concise academic language. Additionally, it serves as a guide
for individuals and organizations seeking to gain more knowledge on how
ethical considerations can be incorporated into decision-making processes
and actions related to sustainable development.
