Foamy metal catalysts have high activity, gas permeability and good mechanical strength. In our previous work we established that block catalysts (highly permeable cellular materials) are promising for pro- cesses of hydrocarbons deep oxidation [i]. Their characteris- tics exceed the indices of granular samples in gas permeability and those of block honeycomb samples in catalytic activity. Since the metal foams have small specific surface (Ssp = 0.01- 0.i m2/g), their use in the processes of deep oxidation is only possible after increasing their specific surface. One of the methods of increasing S is the use of an intermediate y-Al~O~ sp ^z J support permitting to raise S of the catalysts to 20-30 mZ/g. sp Foam catalysts with an intermediate support have been investi- gated in refo [13.
