For this investigation we made use of a study with a descriptive analysis using the profile typology and an ex post facto outline. The sample was selected intentionally n= 48 male athletes of Carioca teams of the first national soccer division which competed the 2001/2002 Brazilian championship. A protocol of dermatoglyphic of cummins & midlo (1942) was used, to which Fernandes Filho (1997) refers, while the somatotype was assessed by somatotype method (Heath & carter - isak, 2001). The statistical treatment of data met the basic proposal, conducted in the present study, making use of des- criptive statistics. In the making of profiles, fingerprints and somatotype models were characterized, including thus, more informative and integral indices, mentioned and discussed. The conclusion was that the athlete profile is demonstrated by means of mean values, and standard deviation in each variable observed.
