Rayon Carbon Phenolic polymeric composites are used in high temperature application as thermal protection system. Quality of these composites is highly process oriented. Composite materials have to be characterized before manufacturing of these polymeric composite components. Unidirectional and Bidirectional laminates with High Strength Glass Epoxy and bidirectional laminates with Rayon Carbon Phenolic composite materials are made and mechanical, physical and thermal properties are tested on samples cut from laminates. Hybrid composite cylindrical pressure component made by using same materials has performed well. Thermal properties are also tested on samples cut from pressure component, made with these composite materials. Manufacturing process of laminates are explained and results of mechanical and thermal properties are analysed. Introduction Epoxy and phenolic polymeric composites are used in aerospace, missile and other applications. Epoxy composites made from PAN carbon, High strength Glass, and E-Glass reinforcements can be used as structural composites and phenolic composites made from PAN carbon, Rayon carbon, and High silica reinforcements can be used as components for thermal protection. These composite materials are characterized for mechanical, physical and thermal properties before manufacturing of products. Unidirectional and bidirectional laminates are made and mechanical, thermal and physical properties are tested on samples as per ASTM standards. Experimental properties achieved are slightly low. However composites made from these materials have performed satisfactorily. Making laminates and samples and testing those samples is very critical activity and utmost care has to be taken while manufacturing of laminates, cutting of samples and then testing of properties.
