Ir. H. Juanda 13, Bogor 16122, Jawa Barat, Indonesia Email: puspitakrb@yahoo.com Abstract Coelogyne is a native orchid to Indonesia which has a relatively large flower and attractive colors. Coelogyne seed storage needs to be done to conserve the diversity of the species. The experiment of orchid seeds storage on seven species of Coelogyne at temperature -20°C have been carried out for four years at Center for Plant Conservation Botanic GardensIndonesian Institute of Sciences. The experimental design used completely randomized design, with media treatment as factors for each species of Coelogyne. Four kinds of media for seed germination test were KCA (Knudson C), KC (modified Knudson C), VW (modified Vacin and Went), and HS (modified Hyponex). Seed viability test was observed after the seeds were stored for 0, 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 12, 18, 24, 36, 48 months. The results showed that the seed of Coelogyne able to germinate in four experimental media. Coelogyne seed viability declined in three months, six months, nine months, and so on depending on the Coelogyne species. Seeds of Coelogyne which can be stored for 12 years were C. pandurata, C. asperata and C. rumphii while the seeds can be stored for three years were C. foerstermannii and C. pulverula. Seeds of C.rochussenii and C. celebensis with a short life span should be sown immediately after harvesting, and then preserve them by in vitro culture or by synthetic seeds through encapsulation of protocorm. Keywords: Coelogyne, media, seed, viability Abstrak Coelogyne merupakan anggrek asli Indonesia yang mempunyai ukuran bunga relatif besar dan warna menarik. Penyimpanan biji Coelogyne perlu dilakukan untuk menjaga keragaman spesies tersebut. Percobaan penyimpanan biji pada tujuh spesies anggrek Coelogyne pada suhu -20 o C telah dilakukan selama empat tahun di PKT KRLIPI. Rancangan percobaan yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap, dengan faktor media yang diperlakukan pada masing-masing spesies Coelogyne. Empat macam media kultur yang digunakan untuk menguji perkecambahan biji adalah KCA (Knudson C), KC (modifikasi Knudson C), VW (modifikasi Vacin and Went), dan HS (modifikasi Hyponex). Uji viabilitas biji diamati setelah biji disimpan selama 0, 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 12, 18, 24, 36, 48 bulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa biji Coelogyne spp. mampu berkecambah di empat media percobaan. Viabilitas biji Coelogyne spp. menurun dalam waktu tiga bulan, enam bulan, sembilan bulan, dan seterusnya tergantung pada spesies Coelogyne tersebut. Biji Coelogyne yang dapat disimpan selama 12 tahun adalah C. pandurata, C. asperata dan C. rumphii, sedangkan biji yang dapat disimpan selama tiga tahun adalah biji C. foerstermannii dan C. pulverula.
