Summary . — The historical sources related to the Muslim presence in Congo in the late 19th century and the early 20th century usually mention Arabs and Swahilis, though many other ethnic communities were involved: Omani and Yemeni Arabs, Baluchis, Indians, Banyamwezi, Batetela, Basonge, Bakusu, Comorians, etc. The goal of this paper is to depict one of these ethnic groups, the Comorians, so as to identify the reasons for their presence in Congo, but also to explore their social position inside the Muslim community in Congo and the surrounding countries, given the fact that they had various professions: soldiers, scribes, chiefs, religious leaders, etc. Mots-clés. — Congo; Comores; Islam; Zanzibar; Swahili. Résumé. — La présence comorienne dans le Congo précolonial et du début de la Colonie (XIX e siècle-1908). — Les sources historiques citant la présence des musulmans à l’est du Congo dans la seconde moitié du XIX e siècle les décrivent généralement comme des Arabes et des Swahilis, mais en réalité la composition ethnique était bien plus com- plexe: Arabes d’Oman et du Yémen, Baloutches, Indiens, Banyamwezi, Batetela, Basonge, Bakusu, Comoriens, etc. L’objet de cet article est de présenter l’un de ces groupes aux origines géographiques les plus lointaines, en l’occurrence les Comoriens, en analysant les raisons de leur présence au Congo et notamment le rôle d’intermédiaire joué par Zan- zibar, mais aussi en se penchant sur les différentes professions exercées par les Comoriens du Congo et des pays voisins, allant du commerce à l’administration en passant par la carrière religieuse, ainsi que sur leurs personnalités les plus importantes.
