The Pongamia pinnata (Vent) commonly known‟s „Karanj‟ has been recognized in different system of traditional medicines for the treatment of different diseases and ailments of human beings. It contains several phyto-chemical like carbohydrates, alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, steroids, tannins and sponins. It is found that the plants contain a number of secondary metabolites and have the pharmacological actions. Hyro-alcoholic extract of Pongamia pinnata (Vent) were studied for its anti oxidant, cardio protective activities. Reduction in DPPH colour indicated presence of strong antioxidant activity. Keywords: Anticancer, antioxidant, cardio protective potential, hydro-alcoholic root & leaves extracts, phyto-chemical constituents, phyto-chemical screening, Pongamia pinnata (Vent).
