JCC 36 Winter 2009 51 How Does Doing Good Matter? Effects of Corporate Citizenship on Employees Ante Glavas Case Western Reserve University, USA Sandy Kristin Piderit Naval Postgraduate School, USA In contrast with previous studies, which have primarily looked at the dynamics and consequences of corporate citizenship at the organisational level, this paper exam- ines the consequences for individual employees. Based on a literature review and strengthened by quotes from 22 interviews, we present a model of how corporate cit- izenship would affect employee engagement, high-quality connections and creative involvement. The model was tested on a sample of 347 employees in North Amer- ica. Findings from regression analyses and structural equation modelling support the hypotheses that employees who perceive higher levels of corporate citizenship will report higher levels of engagement, high-quality connections and creative involvement. ● Corporate citizenship ● Corporate social responsibility ● Engagement ● Creativity ● Relationships ● Employee behaviour Ante Glavas received his PhD in Organizational Behavior from Case Western Reserve University where he was on the faculty and director of the Fowler Center for Sustainable Value.
