Abstract
Cultural Attractions development enhance sustainability in destinations.
However, inadequate development of cultural tourism attractions leads to
communities’ marginalization and declined visitor arrivals due to tourists’
dissatisfaction. In Bungoma County few reports have been documented on
impacts of collaborative attractions development initiative on visitor
satisfaction, which justifies this study. Descriptive cross- sectional survey
design was used. The study location covered Webuye East & West,
Bumula and Mt. Elgon sub counties of Bungoma County. Stratified
random sampling was applied to select 360 respondents. The instrument
employed in the study was a closed ended questionnaire. Categorical
Linear Regression was used and significant levels sought at p≤0.05.
Results showed that monuments and arts had a direct influence on visitor
satisfaction in terms of prolonged length of visit/stay and many visitations.
Further, correspondence analysis was conducted to determine the
relationship between the significant dependent variables (length of visit
and many visitations). Festivals, pilgrimages and heritage produced
insignificant results which showed that these variables had no direct
influence on visitor satisfaction in Bungoma County
