Nowadays, movies are not only a medium of entertainment, but also information and education. (Riandi, 2022). In a movie, there must be actors or characters who play a character in a movie. Each character has its characterization determined by the author. The characterization of a character in a film is usually divided into five, namely the main character, secondary character, supporting character, protagonist, and antagonist. This writing was made to know what character is, recognize the types of characterization, and analyze characterization in the film Lucy. The writer took Lucy to be analyzed because it is based on Darwin's theory which contradicts Christian scripture. The theory says that humans came from evolved apes, while Christian beliefs say that humans were created directly by god from the Earth. This writing focuses on characterization analysis in the film Lucy. The data is taken based on the characters in the film Lucy and is used to reveal the characterization of each character in the movie. REVIEW OF LITERATURE A Character is someone who appears in a story, such as in short stories, novels, dramas, or movies. Abrams (1981) revealed that the people who appear in narrative or drama where the readers interpret have certain moral qualities and inclinations delivered in a speech and action that we called it as ‘character’. Characters are also known as ‘the actors’ of the story. The characters that appear in the story have different characteristics (Rahmah, et al., 2021). Characterization is a trait or behavior that refers to the overall appearance of a character's characteristics or psyche in a story, or drama. It involves how a character is portrayed in terms of physicality, emotions, behavior, and personality. Characterization is also divided into several types such as main character, second character, supporting character, antagonists, protagonists, and tritagonists. Types of characterization: The characterization in a movie can be divided into: 1. Main Character The main character is the character that always appears in the story from the beginning to the end of the story. It is because the main character always appears in the story it makes them influences the development of the plot (Rahmah, et al., 2021). 2. Second character According to Kenney (1966), the second character has a position in a story and has much influence on the main character. 3.
