ABSTRACT
This qualitative research examines the intricacies of peer correction within specific writing genres,
aiming to provide detailed insights into its impact on writing proficiency through collaborative
learning. Through in-depth interviews and comprehensive surveys with language educators and
students, the study uncovers multifaceted perspectives on the benefits, challenges, and best practices
of peer correction in diverse genre contexts. The findings illuminate the nuanced dynamics of peer
correction, highlighting its potential to enhance writing proficiency and facilitate meaningful learning
experiences when tailored to specific genre requirements.

1. INTRODUCTION
Writing is a skill that we all use in various aspects
of our lives, whether it's crafting essays for school
assignments, drafting reports at work, or even just
composing emails or social media posts. However,
becoming proficient in writing requires more than
just knowing how to put words on paper. It
involves understanding different writing styles,
mastering language mechanics, and effectively
communicating ideas to different audiences.
While traditional methods of writing instruction
often rely on teachers providing feedback and
guidance, collaborative learning strategies have
gained attention for their potential to enhance
writing skills. Peer correction, one such strategy,
involves students reviewing and providing
feedback on each other's writing. Through this
process, students not only receive additional
perspectives on their work but also develop
critical thinking skills and become more actively
engaged in the writing process (Topping, 1998;
Hyland & Hyland, 2006).
However, writing is not a one-size-fits-all
endeavor. Various writing genres, such as
persuasive essays, creative narratives, scientific
reports, or poetry, have distinct conventions,
purposes, and audiences. These differences pose
unique challenges when it comes to implementing
peer correction effectively. For instance, while the
criteria for evaluating a scientific report may be
more objective and straightforward, providing
feedback on a piece of poetry may require a more
nuanced understanding of literary techniques and
personal expression.
Understanding how peer correction functions
within specific writing genres is essential for
maximizing its benefits and addressing potential
challenges. This study seeks to look into the
dynamics of peer correction across a range of
writing genres, exploring how it can be tailored to
meet the needs and objectives of different writing
tasks. By examining the experiences and
perspectives of both educators and students, we
aim to uncover valuable insights into the
effectiveness of peer correction within diverse
genre contexts.
Through this exploration, we hope to not only
contribute to the existing body of research on peer
correction but also provide practical
recommendations for educators looking to
enhance their writing instruction. By
understanding the nuances of peer correction
within specific writing genres, we can better
support students in developing their writing skills,
fostering critical thinking, and ultimately
becoming more proficient communicators in
diverse contexts.
