Teori Hamid Shirvani dan D.K Ching menyebutkan bahwa keserasian antar fasade bangunan pada sebuah lingkungan dapat dicapai dengan menerapkan kaidah-kaidah komposisi pada komponen bangunan. Studi ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap karakter bangunan sepanjang Jalan Pantai Kuta, Bali dengan fungsi hotel bintang 5 dari sudut pandang teori Hamid Shirvani dan D.K Ching. Studi dilakukan dengan cara meninjau sejumlah literatur dengan sampel objek yang diteliti sejumlah 4 sampel hotel bintang 5 di lokus penelitian, dengan pendekatan analisis deskriptif. Variabel penelitian terdiri dari indikator komposisi (geometri, simetri, ritme, proporsi dan skala) dan indikator komponen (pintu masuk, bukaan, bentuk atap, ornamen, warna dan material). Hasil studi menunjukkan bahwa: 1) adanya unsur pengikat atau kesamaan dari keempat sampel dalam hal penerapan kaidah ritme, skala dan proporsi yang berkaitan dengan pertimbangan pengulangan fungsi dan penerapan peraturan arsitektur tradisional; 2) adanya unsur pembeda pada penerapan kaidah geometri dan simetri berkaitan dengan pertimbangan bentuk lahan. Hasil studi ini dapat menjadi rekomendasi sebagai bahan pertimbangan dalam perumusan fasade hotel bintang 5 di Jalan Pantai Kuta, Bali. Kata kunci : karakter visual, fasade, bangunan hotel, teori komposisi dan komponen ABSTRACT Façade Building is a reflection of the function and character of the local environment. Hamid Shirvani and D.K Ching's theories mention that the harmony between façade buildings in a ward can be achieved by applying the rules of composition to the components of the building. This study aims to uncover the character of the building along Jalan Pantai Kuta, Bali with the function of 5- star hotel from the viewpoint of Hamid Shirvani and DK Ching’s theories. The study was conducted by reviewing a number of literature with a sampel of objects examined of 4 sampels representing a 5-star hotel in the research locus, with a descriptive analysis approach. The research variables consist of composition indicators (geometry, symmetry, rhythm, proportion and scale) and component indicators (main entrance, openings, roofs, ornaments, colour, and material). The results of the study show that: 1) there is a similarity of the four sampels in terms of the implementation of the rhythm rules, scales and proportions related to the consideration of the function repetition and application of traditional architectural regulations; 2) The presence of distinguting elements on the application of the geometry and symmetry related to the consideration of land form. The results of this study can also be a recommendation as a consideration in the formulation of the facade 5-star hotel in Jalan Pantai Kuta, Bali.
