orthogonal array was used to determine the S/N ratios. Lower-the-better rule was used to characterize the S/N ratios. Erosion
wear experiments were conducted by using a slurry erosion pot tester. Stainless steel (SS304) was used as centrifugal pump
material. Fly ash and sand slurry was used as erodent. Experiments were conducted at different rotational speed, particle size,
solid concentration and time duration. Two different coating powders WC-10Co-4Cr and Ni-20Cr

were deposited to improve
the tribo-resistance of SS304. WC-10Co-4Cr was found as better tribo-resistance powder over Ni-20Cr

1. Introduction
Centrifugal slurry pumps are universally used for conveying bulk solids in pipeline for many chemical and
mining industries. The deterioration of material is an important parameter that plays phenomenal role in
ashconveying system. The material of ash conveying system is a vital aspect in terms of reliability. Cast iron and
various grades of stainless steels are worldwide used as pumping materials [1]. The abrasives and oxides present in
slurry generate many problems such as abrasion, erosion and corrosion [2]. The parts of ash conveying such as pipes,
impeller, shafts, casing etc. internally damages under the mechanical action of erosive particles [3-6]. Many of the
researchers used WC and Cr are the harder materials to control the surface tribology of pumping materials [7-10].
