Elderly patients’ risk of adverse outcomes can be attenuated by early definitive, aggres- sive, and effective surgical strategies combined with a multidisciplinary team that is focused on the unique needs of the geriatric patient. There are multiple models of assessment and delivery of care for geriatric surgical pa- tients. In this review of the literature, and in the authors’ unique experience with geriatric trauma care (G60 trauma), the authors believe that a surgeon leader working with a multi- disciplinary team provides optimal care with the greatest efficiency and utilization of resources.
