Vocational School, Akdeniz University, 07070 Antalya, Turkey * Corresponding author A R T I C L E I N F O A B S T R A C T Research Article Received : 29/11/2019 Accepted : 13/01/2020 The aim of this study is to determine the indoor plant preferences of the academic and administrative staff working in the units of Akdeniz University and the maintenance procedures applied to the indoor plants. In this context, totally 382 academic and administrative staffs’ offices were visited, the size of the offices were measured with laser meters, the indoor plant species were identified and questionnaires were applied to the participants by face-to-face interviews. A statistically significant result was found between the income status, gender, the units (vocational training) of the participants between keeping indoor plants in the offices. Orchids and cactus were the most preferred species. Most of the participants stated that they carried out irrigation and removal of dried branches/leaves as routine maintenance. The participants expressed their satisfaction with the existence of a reasonable number of indoor plants in the offices. The presence of a large number of indoor plants in the offices was found to cause tension and tiredness. It would be a rational solution to make it necessary to incorporate indoor plants into building design and management in the future, which is one of the cheapest and most effective methods of increasing labour productivity and achieving corporate strategic goals. Keywords: Indoor plants Plant preferences Survey Plnats maintanence Office Türk Tarım – Gıda Bilim ve Teknoloji Dergisi, 8(3): 702-713, 2020 Ofislerde Kullanılan İç Mekân Bitki Tercihlerinin, Bakım Olanaklarının ve Hava Kalitesi Üzerine Etkilerinin Değerlendirilmesi: Akdeniz Üniversitesi Örneği M A K A L E B İ L G İ S İ Ö Z Araştırma Makalesi Geliş : 29/11/2019 Kabul : 13/01/2020 Bu çalışmanın amacı, Akdeniz Üniversitesi yerleşkesi içerisinde yer alan birimlerde görev yapan akademik ve idari personellerin iç mekân bitki tercihlerinin, sahip oldukları iç mekân bitkilerine uyguladıkları bakım işlemlerinin belirlenmesidir. Bu kapsamda 382 adet akademik ve idari personellere ait ofis ziyaretinde bulunulmuş, ofis büyüklüleri lazer metre ile ölçülmüş, ofislerde bulunan iç mekân bitki türleri teşhis edilmiş ve birebir görüşmeler ile anket formu katılımcılara uygulanmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre Akdeniz Üniversitesi yerleşkesi içerisindeki örneklenen akademik ve idari personel ofislerinin büyüklüğü ortalama 19 m 2 olup, sahip olunan iç mekân bitki ortalaması ise 2,3’dür. Katılımcıların gelir durumu, cinsiyetleri, görev yapmakta oldukları birimler (mesleki eğitimleri) ile ofislerde iç mekân bitkisi bulundurulması arasında istatistiksel açıdan anlamlı bir sonuç bulunmuştur. Orkide ve kaktüs türlerinin ofislerde en çok tercih edilen türl er olduğu belirlenmiştir. Katılımcıların çoğu, sahip oldukları türlere rutin bakım işlemlerinden sulama ve kurumuş dal/yaprakların uzaklaştırılmasını gerçekleştirdiklerini belirtmişlerdir. Katılımcılar ofislerinde makul sayıda iç mekân bitkisi varlığından memnuniyet duyduklarını ifade etmiştir. Ofislerde çok sayıda iç mekân bitkisinin varlığı, katılımcılarda gerginlik ve yorgunluk duygularına neden olduğu belirlenmiştir. İşgücü verimliliğini arttırmanın ve kurumsal stratejik hedeflere ulaşmanın en ucuz ve en etkili yöntemlerinden biri olan iç mekân bitkilerini gelecekte bina tasarımına ve yönetimine dâhil etmenin zorunlu hale getirilmesi akılcı bir çözüm olacaktır.
