ABSTRACT
This chapter explores the transformative role of Toy Story in the evolution of 3D animation, aligning
it with the historical progression from traditional methods to CGI. Emphasizing Pixar's significant
contributions in rendering, modeling, and animation software that elevated realism and storytelling in
animation, the study explores the intersection of artistic creativity and technological innovation, high-
lighting the deepening narrative depth and character development. The chapter also analyzes the film's
impact on the industry, its focus on CGI and subsequent technological developments, and its lasting
influence on the field.
INTRODUCTION
Animation has evolved dramatically over the years in the dynamic world of cinema, transcending its
initial limitations to become a powerful medium of storytelling and artistic expression. As animation
entered the digital age, the advent of Computer Generated Imagery (CGI) marked a paradigm shift in
the industry.
This article is a comparative analysis of the 1995 Pixar film Toy Story and its profound impact on the
world of computer generated imagery (CGI) animation using five perspectives under different headings.
First, the analysis sheds light on the paradigm shift in the industry by juxtaposing traditional hand-drawn
animation techniques with the new CGI technology used in Toy Story. It explores how CGI animation
breaks the boundaries of traditional methods and offers unprecedented levels of detail, realism and
creative freedom.
