Um intelectual que se assenta ao serviço da compreensão cultural e artística – em especial a literária – de nosso país. O estilo ensaístico de Schwarz mostra seu vigor, diante tanto de adeptos quanto de seus críticos. No presente artigo, o problema está na interpretação crítica do Brasil, fundado pelo trabalho servil, pelo colonialismo e o subdesenvolvimento capitalista. Na forma ensaística do autor, temos a característica central que marca a busca do movimento de seu objeto: a inserção das ideias em um terreno social dado. No decorrer das linhas a seguir, faremos alguns apontamentos sobre as principais contribuições na crítica cultural e política no Brasil, visando reposicionar as principais ideias do autor. Os objetos de investigação, análise e crítica, seja em literatura, seja nas hordas culturais de nosso país, aparecem em nosso autor como um ponto de avanço crítico na compreensão de nosso país dentro do capitalismo: é esse legado, portanto, que um crítico e analista social pode, em simultâneo, trazer à contrapelo o passado para compreender o presente. PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Roberto Schwarz; cultura; pensamento brasileiro. ABSTRACT Roberto Schwarz is a singular author in the interpretation of Brazilian culture. An intellectual who is at the service of the cultural and artistic understanding – in particular the literary – of our country. Schwarz’s style of essay shows his strength, before both supporters and critics. In this article, the problem lies in the critical interpretation of Brazil, founded by slavish work, colonialism and capitalist underdevelopment. In the author’s essay form, we have the central characteristic that marks the search of the movement of its object: the insertion of ideas in a given social terrain. Throughout the lines below, we will make some notes on the main contributions in cultural and political criticism in Brazil, aiming to reposition the main ideas of the author. The objects of investigation, analysis and criticism, whether in literature or in the cultural hordes of our country, appear in our author as a critical breakthrough point in understanding our country within capitalism: it is this legacy, therefore, that a critic and social analyst can at the same time, bring to the back of the past to understand the present.
