One of the characteristics of mass media institution is the media related to the industrial market, due to the reliance on employment, technology, and financing needs. Commodification of television contents as the form of hyper-commercialism and rating is the issue of capitalism related to media logic. To see TV content commodification through the perspective of political economy that is stressed about social relations, especially the power relations of mutual benefit of of the sources of production, distribution and consumption, including the communication sources. Keywords: commodification, television content, media economy politic PENDAHULUAN Sepuluh stasiun terbesar yang bersiaran nasional kini dikuasai oleh empat kelompok utama: Grup MNC (RCTI, MNCTV, Global); Bakrie (AnTv dan TVOne); Emtek (SCTV dan Indosiar); TransCorp (TransTV dan Trans-7). Hal ini sangat mengkhawatirkan karena media televisi bukanlah sekadar bisnis media biasa. Stasiun televisi beroperasi dengan menggunakan frekuensi siaran yang merupakan milik publik dan jumlahnya terbatas. Pemusatan kepemilikan akan mengancam hak rakyat untuk menyebarkan dan menerima informasi. Di pihak lain, televisi adalah sebuah media sangat berpengaruh dalam kehidupan sosial- politik-ekonomi suatu masyarakat. Bila industri penyiaran dikuasai hanya oleh segelintir kelompok, dikhawatirkan itu akan berdampak negatif pada kualitas demokrasi dan kesejahteraan masyarakat banyak.
