O presente trabalho é parte da pesquisa de doutorado em andamento sobre Abigail Moura e a Orquestra Afro-Brasileira, trazendo resultados parciais. O escopo é a década de 1940, quando o coletivo é fundado em meio a um período de efervescência cultural e intelectual negra pós Estado Novo de Vargas no Brasil. A fonte de dados é a Hemeroteca Digital da Biblioteca Nacional, que conta com vasto acervo de jornais e periódicos digitalizados de diversos períodos históricos do país. O objetivo do trabalho é organizar e remontar a memória da Orquestra Afro-Brasileira utilizando a cobertura jornalística da época como fonte primária. Para melhor ilustração, os dados foram organizados em três tabelas: apresentações, integrantes da orquestra e repertório. Apesar das limitações, esse tipo de abordagem ajuda a melhor compreender o contexto histórico, social e político em que a Orquestra estava inserida. Palavras-chave. The 1940s: the flourishing of the Orquestra Afro-Brasileira through the eyes of the press of its time Abstract. This paper is part of ongoing doctoral research on Abigail Moura and the Orquestra Afro-Brasileira, with partial results. The scope is the 1940s, when the collective was founded in the midst of a period of black cultural and intellectual effervescence after the Vargas Estado Novo in Brazil. The data source is the Hemeroteca Digital of the National Library, which has a vast collection of digitized newspapers and periodicals from various historical periods in the country. The aim of the work is to organize and reassemble the memory of the Orquestra Afro-Brasileira using the newspaper coverage of the time as a primary source. For better illustration, the data has been organized into three tables: performances, orchestra members and repertoire. Despite its limitations, this type of approach helps to better understand the historical, social and political context in which the Orchestra was inserted. Keywords.
